Abstract

Two chelating dianionic bis(pentafluorophenylamido) ligands are introduced, their zirconium dibenzyl complexes synthesised, their X-ray structures solved, and their potential as ethylene polymerisation catalysts evaluated. The fluorine substituents on the aromatic rings of the two ligands were found to interact with the zirconium atom. Preliminary polymerisation studies show that both complexes polymerise ethylene in the presence of MAO, the more reactive complex being the one having weaker M-F interactions.
