Abstract

The basic sense of the word xenos (plural xenoi) is “foreigner” – an outsider who stays for a short while in another community without becoming a full member of it. Xenoi usually applies to freeborn foreigners, but the word has a wider semantic range. A xenos could be (a) a “stranger” or “foreigner”
