Abstract

This paper discusses the unique challenges and progress in the area of wideband phased arrays with true time delay beamformers. The beamforming of an array with wide instantaneous bandwidth must take into account pulse distortion (impulse response of all its components). This necessitates changes in the hardware and calibration processing of the array. Progress from the Rotman lens to photonic beamformers will be examined and the remaining challenges discussed.
