Abstract

The angle closure glaucomas are a diverse group of disorders characterized by iridotrabecular apposition, trabecular injury and dysfunction, elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), glaucomatous optic neuropathy, and visual field loss. Although angle closure can develop from a variety of causes, almost all cases of primary angle closure have a component of relative pupillary block. Since laser iridotomy successfully eliminates the relative pupillary block component of the angle closure process, it should be performed in all eyes with primary angle closure.
