Abstract
The article surveys the process of democratic backsliding Israeli society has experienced in recent years. It elucidates the significance of The Basic Law: Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People (hereafter: The Nationality Basic Law) in that process and analyzes how it became part of the Israeli constitutional model. The article then explores the normative implications of the Law and contends that it is incompatible with the principles of modern constitutionalism and raises serious concerns about democracy in Israel.
