Wave propagation in quasi-periodic particle chains

Abstract

Almost periodic particle chains exhibit propagation properties that cannot be handled by the conventional tools that are usually applied to periodic chains. We present a mathematical framework for the analysis of such structures, and the modal features they posses. In particular, we show that guided modes exist as opposed to random structures where scattering must occur. Quasi-periodic chains are an important link between periodic and random structures.
