Abstract
Technique designed for studying unidirectional repeatable wave fields in a laboratory wave tank is suggested. The method is based on digital processing of a sequence of video-recorded images and tracking the movement of the contact line along the whole tank. Measurements of both spatial and temporal variation of the wave field are possible. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified by comparing the video image processing-derived results with conventional measurements using resistance-type wave gauges.
