Abstract

The vibration-vibration energy transfer of CO2 gas initially excited to the first asymmetric stretch level (00°1) has been observed. Collisional pumping to the (0111) combination level is measured by monitoring the fluorescence due to the (0111) → (O11O) band. The rate constant for the process: CO2(0111)+ CO2(0000) → CO2(0001) + CO2(0110) is found to be (5.3 ± 1) × 106 s-1 torr-1.
