Abstract

A solvable model for velocity profiles in confined liquids under shear is presented. We investigate the influence of structuring at the interface on the flow with emphasis on exact behaviour at low shear rates. Approximate results are derived for high shear rates. We derive the Brinkman equation for the velocity profile and obtain interesting dependencies on the liquid-film thickness and on the liquid-liquid and liquid-solid interactions which should be amenable to experimental and numerical testing.
