Abstract

The discovery of genes involved in malignant transformation and tumor growth has lead to the development of anti-cancer gene therapies. In addition, new modifications to immune based therapy have recently been developed. In this review, we focus on modern genetic and immunologic approaches to the treatment of urologic malignancy. We summarize new developments in vectors, tumor suppressors, suicide genes, gene based immunotherapy, tumor vaccines, dendritic cell therapy, and graft vs. tumor therapy. Additional topics described include prostate antigens and prostate specific promoters. Pre-clinical and clinical trials that utilize these therapies are summarized.
