Abstract

In two young siblings with Marfan syndrome and severe mitral insufficiency, unusual M-mode echocardiographic features were found. In one a myxoma-like pattern was demonstrated. In the other the posterior mitral leaflet echo separated in diastole into two echoes, one moving anteriorly and one moving posteriorly. In both cases systolic fluttering of the anterior mitral leaflet and pansystolic prolapse of the posterior mitral leaflet were found. Pathologic study of the mitral valve clarified these unusual findings.Received for publication 8 April 1981.
