Abstract
A case is described of a young woman with severe rectal hemorrhage as an acute complication of ulcerative colitis. This followed a prolonged period of intensive medical therapy. This case illustrates the importance of early surgery to prevent this complication and to lower overall mortality in acute complications of this disease.
