Abstract

To the Editor: It is generally agreed that torsion and ischemia of adnexa will require treatment by adnexectomy.1 Since torsion of the adnexa in female patients usually occurs at or before the age of reproduction,2 we conducted a study to determine whether twisted adnexa with ischemic changes could be salvaged safely by detorsion. In our series, 19 female patients between the ages of 2 1/2 and 35 years underwent emergency surgery for torsion of normal adnexa (2 girls in premenarche, 2 women in the 7th and 23rd weeks of pregnancy, 3 women with ovarian hyperstimulation, and 12 other patients).
