A series of 91 patients with various benign, premalignant and malignant skin tumors was treated with Mardil 5577. The series included 29 cases of basal cell epithelioma, seven of squamous cell carcinoma and 13 of dermatofibroma. The solution was applied locally to the tumors 2-3 times at 2-4 day intervals. Complete cure was obtained in 88 cases. There was no damage to adjacent skin and no local or systemic adverse effects were observed. Healing took place with minimal scar formation. Treatment of skin tumors with Mardil 5577 is effective, simple and safe and is clearly superior to electrocoagulation and surgery. It is definitely the safest procedure for lesions near the eyes and in other locations where scar formation lead to deformities. Clinical trials are therefore indicated in a large variety of skin tumors. For those tumors for which the efectiveness of Mardil 5577 has already been proven, it should be considered the treatment of choice.
