Abstract

The treatment of septic knee by irrigation through the arthroscope using Hibitane (chlorhexidine acetate, 0.02%) is described. Injection of the solution under pressure is followed by suction. This enables debridement of necrotic tissue, removal of proteolytic enzymes from the joint and flushing out of bacteria. This initial treatment is followed by irrigation-suction of the joint. Two children with septic knee cured after treatment by this method are presented.
