Abstract

5 patients, 3-13 yr old, diagnosed as having anginose infectious mononucleosis, failed to respond to various antibiotic therapy for suspected streptococcal tonsillitis. They were treated with metronidazole (750 mg/day for 5 days). Return of temperature to normal with improvement of general well-being occurred in 24-48 h., while disappearance of tonsillar exudates and cervical lymphadenopathy were observed in 48-96 h after therapy was commenced. No side effects were observed.
