Traversal time for electron tunneling in water

Abstract

The tunneling time for electron traversing a water layer separating two metal electrodes was calculated. The Buttiker-Landauer approach was applied to estimate the traversal time for electron tunneling through a realistic three-dimensional model of a water layer. The resonance structure in the transmission probability was found to be associated with cavities in the water structure.
