Transient cataracts in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) are rare and have been reported only in association with severe ketoacidosis or hyperosmolarity. 1-3 We present an adolescent with transient bilateral posterior subcapsular cataracts, which developed after the recent onset of IDDM without ketoacidosis or severe hyperosmolarity.
