Abstract

A healthy neonate had an aqueous enema because of what was thought to be a meconium plug. Although he was relieved of symptoms, be continued to suffer from mild constipation. At the age of three months an abdominal mass was palpated between the rectum and bladder, but during the next few days it practically disappeared. With the aid of a barium enema and excretory urography (IVP), duplication of the descending colon from the splenic flexure to the rectum was demonstrated. An extensive anastomosis between the duplicate segment and the sigmoid colon was performed.
