Abstract
A variable speed wind energy conversion system based on a squirrel cage autonomous induction generated is covered in this paper for operation in high wind speeds. In this case, the turbine must limit the fraction of the wind power captured so that safe electrical and mechanical loads are not exceeded. Different control strategies based on induction machine characteristics for fixed-pitch turbines are discussed. Extended simulation results are presented for main control approaches.
