Three-dimensional selective amplitude histograms: A statistical approach to EEG-single neuron relationships

Abstract

A statistical method for analyzing relationships between EEG activity (or membrane potential fluctuations) and neuronal spike discharges is described. A three-dimensional selective amplitude histogram is produced which shows the frequency of occurrence of EEG amplitudes as a function of neuronal discharge time. This graph and related statistical derivations permit detection and quantification of non-random EEG-single unit correlations.
