Abstract

Israel will orbit a satellite dedicated to scientific research as an intermediate stage between the low-orbit spinners of the OFFEQ family and the geo-synchronous communication satellites (AMOS). The experiment selected for deployment on the scientific platform is a three-channel imager in the ultraviolet proposed by Tel Aviv University and designed jointly by staff of the Wise Observatory and of El-Op (Electro-Optical Industries, Ltd). The design provides very significant scientific returns in a small payload and can compete well in some areas with multi-billion dollar programs, such as the Hubble Space Telescope.
