Abstract
A new resistance-management technique based upon creating a primary story in which another, secondary story is embedded is presented. Through careful manipulation of reality and fantasy, the confusing nature of the embedded story supports the acceptance of the seemingly reality-based primary story. The 'story-in-a-story' technique was found to be effective in overcoming resistance and is thus of clinical relevance to therapists.
