Abstract

We examine the role of the giant spin-dipole resonance (both isoscalar and isovector) in parity mixing in compound nuclear states. We consider its contribution to the longitudinal asymmetry measured in recent experiments with epithermal polarized neutrons on unpolarized medium and heavy mass nuclei. Empolying the doorway state approximation we calculate the contribution of the spin-dipole to the parity nonconserving spreading width and average asymmetry.
