N2 - The paper attempts to analyze the implications for the liquid-vapor transition of the recent finding of the coexistence of metallic- and non-metallic domains in liquid mercury. In particular, it is shown that liquid mercury forms a "pseudo-binary" mixture, for which the liquid-vapor two phase region in the pressure-temperature plane is no longer a single line but a two dimensional domain.
