The paleogeography during QI times is of a rather vast flatland crossed by several river systems from the east to the Mediterranean, while to the northeast volcanism of the Cover Basalt prevailed. The rivers had broad channels, probably braided, with wide floodplains on which gravel accumulated. Fluctuations of the sea level brought ingression during QIb, the Calabrian. The transition to QII, followed by the Glacial Pleistocene and finally the Holocene, saw remarkable changes in the paleogeography and the environments. The formation of the Dead Sea Rift endoreic system and the uplift of the hilly inland caused considerable changes in the hydrography. The QII through QX environments are a combination of this new drainage regime and the changing global climates. -from Authors
