note = "Funding Information: Tamoxifen retinopathy was first reported in four patients who had received doses of 108 to 230 g of tamoxifen during a period of 17 to 27 months.' Retinal toxicity associated with lowdose tamoxifen was noted in two cases of retinopathy in 17 patients treated with 30 mg/ day.! A recent prospective study of 63 patients treated with tarnoxifen, 20 mg/day, demonstrated retinopathy in four patients.{"} Currently, a clinical trial involving 16,000 women, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health, is underway to determine the efficacy of long-term tamoxifen therapy (20 mg/day) in preventing invasive breast cancer. No provisions have been made for ocular examinations of the study patients. Patients treated with long-term tamoxifen therapy warrant baseline and periodic ophthalmic examinations for detection of subclinical retinal disease. Ophthalmologists and oncologists should be aware of the possibility of marked retinal toxicity even in patients taking low doses of tarnoxifen.",
