Abstract

Population-based screening for colorectal cancer is widely recommended, with conventional colonos-copy considered the preferred modality. However, compliance with screening colonoscopy is low, and manpower capacity for performing the procedure is limited. Therefore, the PillCam COLON capsule endoscope was developed as a new, minimally invasive diagnostic tool that may be a more acceptable alternative strategy. This article reviews the results of feasibility studies comparing PillCam COLON capsule endoscopy with conventional colonoscopy.
