Abstract
The far ultra-violet absorption band of the iodide ion in aqueous solution was investigated to 188 mμ, and its oscillator strength and temperature dependence determined. Comparison with theory confirms that the two iodide bands are due to the different possible electronic structures of the iodide atom resulting after excitation.
