Abstract

The Family Deinococcaceae, within the domain Bacteria, is most noted for containing certain species, such as Deinococcus radiodurans and Deinococcusdeserti, that exhibit an extraordinary ability to withstand DNA double-strand breaks generated by ionizing radiation as vegetative cells. Deinococcaceae are aerobic, require very complex media for growth, and produce pink to reddish colonies.
