title = "The Exodus in Psalms and in the Prayers of Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jews): Prayer and Identity Formation among Ethiopian Jewry",
abstract = "The paradigmatic salvation from Egypt and at the Sea was remembered and given theological significance in several psalms (Pss 77, 78, 80, 81, 105, 106, 114, 135, 136) and in the Song of the Sea (Exod 15). This salvation tradition is expressed orally by Beta Israel Qeso{\v c}{\v c} (priests) within their prayers, performed mainly around the Fāsikā (Passover) ceremonies. This paper tries to locate which of the abovementioned psalms on the Exodus the Qeso{\v c}{\v c} use in their prayers. Is the Song of the Sea among them as well? And are the Qeso{\v c}{\v c} aware of the similarities and the distinctions between the Exodus stories, the Song of the Sea, and the psalmodic traditions? This study is part of a new research project I lead on the Beta Israel readings of the Orit (the Pentateuch with Joshua, Judges and Ruth) and other biblical Scriptures.",
