The electroretinogram of the compound eye in developing holometabolic and hemimetabolic insects

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

1. 1. In the two metamorphic processes, in the holometabolic and the hemimetabolic insects the growth in size of the eye which takes place by the addition of new ommatidia is accompanied by specific increases in the amplitude of the electroretinogram. 2. 2. The ganglionic response of the holometabolic insect appears only after the adult is fully matured, but it appears as early as the second instar in the hemimetabolic insect.
