Abstract
we investigated the effect of reflected stress wave on crack speed in silicon single crystal. The experiments were performed using our coefficient of thermal expansion mismatch (CTEM) method, which enables a quasi-static loading. By evaluating the experimental energy-speed relationship of a fast crack, we show small variations (~5-8%) in crack speed when compared to Freund equation of motion, meaning that the effect of reflected stress wave on crack speed is limited.
