N2 - The dependence of Tafel slopes on molecular size has been demonstrated for the reduction of three aldehydes at the dropping mercury electrode in alkaline solution, in accordance with a theory suggested elsewhere3. Further studies of electrode kinetics of homologous series may lend additional support for the theory. The parameter m derived from the observed Tafel slope may give, in certain cases, information of the way in which molecules are adsorbed on the surface.
