Abstract

Analysis of error has been carried out for the coulostatic method. The optimal time scale for the determination of i0 has been shown to be equal to 2TC. The determination of i0 is based on the computer curve-fitting of a set of points on the transients to the analytical equation of potential decay. The uncertainty in the determination of i0 depends only on the ratio tc/d. Highest accuracy is otbained for Tc/d > 500, where the uncertainty in the determination of i0 is 3.3 times that for the measurement of the potential. Reasonable accuracy can be obtained for values of CAd not less than 0.5. An iteration method for the simultaneous determination of i0 and Cdi has been outlined.
