Abstract

Mössbauer studies were performed with 119Sn atoms embedded in solid NH3 in the temperature range 14-80 K. The quadrupole-split spectrum with AΔEQ = 2.72(2) mm/s and isomer shift = +2.52(2) mm/s with respect to BaSnO3 indicates formation of a singly bound, covalent SnNH3 molecule. From the temperature dependence of the recoil-free fraction, its force constant in sohd ammonia is derived.
