Abstract

In this study we examine a number of parameters characterizing the various properties of an aperture in a baffled cylindrical waveguide: the end correction, reflectance, radiation impedance and radiation patterns. Our main objective is to determine the degree to which these parameters are influenced by higher order modes, when these are excited by an impinging plane wave at frequencies below the cutoff of the first higher order mode. We also compare two different approaches to calculating these parameters, and discuss issues of accuracy encountered when transforming between these two calculations.
