The 3 2 power law for high order multiphoton processes

Abstract

We present an analysis of the intensity (I) dependence of the experimental multiphoton photodissociation probability ((Γ)) for a conical geometry of the laser beam, incorporating saturation effects. For laser intensities in the focal region which exceed the critical intensity for the onset of saturation the (Γ) ∫ I 3 2 law holds over a broad intensity range, masking the order of the quantum process. Experimental conditions for the conical geometry which will result in information concerning the order of the multiphoton process are discussed.
