Text and reference books on knowledge acquisition and machine learning

This review is subdivided into two sections. The first section contains a description of books that can serve as a main source of information on knowledge acquisition and machine learning. The second section contains a list of additional references that are more focussed in specialized domains. The description of each book contains general comments on the presentation of the material, the level of the book (introductory, intermediate, advanced), the intended audience (e.g., researchers, engineers, general, etc.). In most cases, the content of the book or its summary appears at the end of the description.
