Abstract

The incidence of invasive thyroid cancer varies from 1% to as high as 23%, and it commonly involves multiple central compartment structures, including the larynx, trachea, and esophagus. Optimal management of invasive thyroid cancer requires a complex understanding of surrounding anatomy, necessary extent of resection, and a breadth of reconstructive strategies. In this chapter, we discuss signs and symptoms of the disease, mechanism of invasion, diagnosis, and surgical management, including ablative and reconstructive options for minimal to extensive invasion of the laryngotracheal complex and esophagus.
