Abstract

We have investigated the relative stability of a number of p(1×1), c(2×2) and p(2×2) surface reconstructions on the (100) CoSi2 surface as deposited on Si(100). The relative stability of these reconstructions as a function of whether the growth conditions are either Si rich or Co rich is also investigated. We show that the most stable surface under all growth conditions is a c(2×2) reconstructed Si-terminated surface.
