Abstract

It is argued that 't Hooft-Polykov monopoles are highly composite and contain effectively 1/α gauge and Higgs quanta. Thus mm̄ annihilation will yield on the average n ̄H ≈ n ̄rmW ≈ 1/α. In particular superheavy monopoles can annihilation into the SU(5) Higgs leptoquarks. The subsequent decay of the latter can serve as a source of the observed baryon asymmetry. Some comments are made in connection with the grand monopole problem and the detectability of such monopoles.
