N2 - The title compounds were synthesized along with trans-2-fluoro-3-chloro-1, 4-dioxane and conformationally analyzed using 1H, 19F, and 13C NMR spectroscopic methods. The trans compound was concluded to occur in better than 96% as diaxial conformers. This is discussed in terms of the “anomeric effect” and “gauche effect” of fluorine.
