Abstract
The effects of spontaneous emission noise on system performance are reduced when using dispersion management. The effects are even stronger if a `sliding' dispersion management is used in which the local average group velocity dispersion (GVD) decreases with a 1/z law. This method has two advantages since it tolerates a higher pulse energy, making a comparison with a classical dispersion management, the local average GVD is higher and the input link and lower at the link output and these characteristics permit a reduction of the time jitter and to operate with a higher pulse energy. This scheme was implemented using two kinds of fibers and changing the length of the compensating fibers that are supposed to be located at the optical amplifier positions.
