Abstract
Macro model estimation depends to a high degree on the a priori input information (e.g. picked time horizons corresponding to velocity contrasts, number and positions of nodes for splines describing the interfaces and velocities etc.). This a priori information should be consistent with the geological knowledge in order to obtain reliable results. The next step is the choice of the inversion algorithm transforming the time domain into interval velocities and depths. It should take into account the data’s quality, the complexity of the model and reliability of input information. In this work several techniques for macro model estimation are presented. The advantages and disadvantages of each of them are discussed. It is shown that a correct combining of different types of algorithms leads to an efficient macro model estimation.
