Abstract
A model that allows the generation of partial differential equations (PDE) which describe the propagation of optical pulses in nematic liquid crystal waveguides was developed. The model worked for the case beyond the weakly nonlinear limit corresponding to the Kerr medium. It was shown that the physical nature of the existence of embedded solitons inside the continuous spectrum was the balance between the dispersion and nonlinearity in the derived bright-soliton equations.
