Abstract

In a two-dimensional nonlinear system with a uniform state unstable against finite-wavenumber oscillatory perturbations, stability of near-onset traveling-rectangle and oscillatory-triangle patterns against long-wave modulations is investigated analytically within the framework of coupled amplitude equations of the Newell-Whitehead-Segel type. Stability of the simplest quasi-periodic pattern based on three wave vectors against in-phase perturbations is investigated too.
