Abstract

Calculations of the distribution of single nucleotides and doublets in many of the recently published sequences are consistent with the suggestion that some DNA has evolved through inverse ligation of duplicated sequences. We thus propose that this mechanism which yields sequence variation has been utilized in addition to the well known "regular" sequence duplication.
