Abstract

1. A single dose of hexachlorophene (40 mg/kg) given to albino rats 4, 8 and 12 weeks after their experimental infection with Fasciola hepatica, produced marked lethal effect on the flukes 6-15 days post treatment, and significant changes in the glutamate oxalacetate transaminase (GOT) and sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH) levels in the serum and liver of the rats. 2. In 8 and 12-week infections, hexachlorophene administration produced a transient "toxic" effect with marked blood neutrophilia.
