N2 - In this paper we develop an approach to active noise cancellation using a single microphone. The noise field is modeled as a stochastic process and a time adaptive algorithm based on a modification of the block Estimate Maximize (EM) algorithm is used to adaptively estimate the parameters of this process. Based on these parameter estimates a cancelling signal is generated. The algorithm developed is evaluated with recordings of aircraft noise, and has been implemented in real time with a single AT&T DSP32C chip.
